July's Book Club: Beach Read by Emily Henry
A girl with a drinking problem magically sobers up after bumping into her old nemesis and—surprise!—starts writing again.
I’m currently on the hunt for my own nemesis. Preferably tall, dark, broody, and handsome. If you know one, send him my way.
Summer Book Club is always a little chaotic, and this one was no exception. By August, all I wanted was to drink and send my kids back to school. So… that’s what we did. We ate Shelby’s enchilada dip and talked about things we probably shouldn’t have—which is exactly what Book Club is made for. A little emotional cleansing, if you will.
Some books demand deep conversation.
This one? Didn't need it.
It was fun, romantic, and easy. A perfect beach read.
January (the main character) learns at her father’s funeral that he had a secret mistress and a whole other house. Her perfectly curated life crumbles, and she spirals into depression, drinking, and heartbreak—as one does. When she hits rock bottom, she moves into her father’s “other” house, stumbles upon a bad coffee shop, and finds a handsome, broody ex she can’t stand… who just happens to live next door.
Spoiler: it gets better.
Moral of the story: Put your big girl panties on and do the hard stuff.
Till next time —
Happy Reading,
Marsha
Our Book Club isn’t just a group of women sitting around laughing...
Okay, fine—it is a lot of that.
But it’s also so much more.
For me, this space was created by my girlfriends at a time when I needed it most.
That’s the heart of sisterhood: showing up, sharing stories, and holding space for each other—sometimes with wine, sometimes with tears, always with love.
Join me each week for updates on what we’re reading and how it inevitably weaves itself into the chaos of my real life.
